Message from the Chair
Welcome to the web pages of the Department of Computer Science at Rutgers University, Camden. The department was founded in 1996 and belongs to the Camden College of Arts and Sciences.
The department currently offers two undergraduate degree programs and a graduate M.S. program in computer science.
Our undergraduate programs are based on a comprehensive curriculum that was recently revised in accordance with the latest recommendations by ACM and IEEE, the two premier professional societies for computing professionals. New students entering the department from Fall 2005 onwards will automatically follow this curriculum; majors who started earlier should consult with me if they are interested in graduating under the new curriculum rather than an earlier one (bear in mind that in order to fulfill graduation requirements, an exclusive choice must be made between the older curricula and the current one).
The faculty members in the department are committed to very high standards in teaching excellence. Indeed, Dr. Rajiv Gandhi won the 2006 Rutgers-Camden Provost's award for teaching excellence! He joins a select few faculty on campus with this distinction. Our faculty also very actively involved in research in many exciting areas within computer science. Several members have current or recently-funded research grants and awards; please contact individual faculty members if you are interested with them in working on their respective projects.
If you are a prospective student who is keen on learning more about the program, do not hesitate to call me (856-225-6077) for an appointment. You can alternatively send me email (shende at camden dot rutgers dot edu) and I'll be happy to assist you with any specific inquiries.
If you are an alumnus visiting this page, welcome back! Your feedback and suggestions are always appreciated and help us improve and streamline the program. We are also keen to hear from you about your current employment, professional successes, and future career plans. If graduate school is in your plans, you should definitely contact me or Dr. Jean-Camille Birget, the department's Graduate Chair, for more details.
