Bachelor of Science Degree: 2005 Curriculum
2005 Curriculum
Students pursuing the Bachelor of Science (B.S) degree must complete a minimum of 120 credits. The course requirements for this option are listed below.
General Curricular Requirements (48 credits)
The General Curricular Requirements remain unchanged from the 2003-2005 version of the catalog, and are reproduced below.
The Bachelor of Science (B.S) program complies with the general curricular requirements for the bachelor's degree in the Camden College of Arts and Sciences (CCAS). To satisfy these general requirements, students must complete the following courses:
- Twelve credits in Language Skills courses, as specified below:
- Six credits in English Composition (50:350:101-102)
- Three credits in a foreign language course (spoken language) at the 102 (Elementary II) level or above.
- Three credits in a writing course offered by the English Department (50:989:300, 301, 302, 303) or Writing Intensive (W) course offered by any department. Note: Do not include credits here if the "W" course is used to fulfill other degree requirements.
- Six credits in Quantitative Skills courses, as specified below:
- Three credits in Mathematics courses (50:640 courses only)
- Three additional credits in either Mathematics (50:640), Computer Science (50:198), Philosophy (50:730:201, 332 or 430)
- Nine credits in Ancient and Modern Heritages, as specified
below:
- Three credits in World Masterpieces (50:090:238).
- Three credits in History, Philosophy, or Religion (not including 50:730:201, 332, and 430).
- Six credits from Literature and Fine Arts courses, as
specified below:
- Three credits in Art, Music, or Theater Arts courses (not including speech courses).
- Three credits in English (50:350, 50:352 or 50:354) or Foreign Language in English translation.
- Six credits from social science disciplines: Anthropology, Criminal Justice, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Urban Studies (but no more than three credits from any one discipline)
- Three credits in a Diversity (D) or Global Studies (G) course.
- Six credits in Astronomy, Biological Science, Chemistry, Geology or Physics
Some of the general curricular requirements are automatically satisfied by fulfilling the natural science and mathematics requirements of the B.S. program; specifically:
- Six credits of the natural science requirements may be used to satisfy the general curricular requirements of six credits from the offerings of the natural science disciplines.
- Six credits of the mathematics requirements may be used to satisfy the general curricular requirements of three credits in mathematics and three credits in mathematics, computer science or statistics.
Natural Science Requirements (12 credits)
- 50:750:131,132 Elements of Physics I and II (6 cr.)
- 50:750:133,134 Elements of Physics Laboratory I and II (2 cr.)
- Minimum of 4 additional credits in natural science from the offerings of the biological sciences, chemistry, or physics departments. Courses designed for nonscience majors may not be used to satisfy this requirement.
Mathematics Requirements (18 or 21 credits)
- 50:640:121, 122 and 221 Unified Calculus I, II and III (12 cr.)
- 50:960:336 Applied Statistics (3 cr.) or both 50:960:283,284 Introduction to Statistics I,II (6 cr.)
- Minimum of 3 additional credits in mathematics at the 200 level or higher (excluding 50:640:237 Discrete Mathematics).
